Getting Started with Data Viz Art

How is Data Viz Art created?

Data visualization as fine art prints are designed and developed with enterprise-ready data visualization and digital content creation tools, Tableau and Adobe Illustrator. The visualization authoring process using these tools results in the creation of vector graphic files to be minted or placed into an OpenSea.io collection for sale to customers with digital wallets like metamask.io. We highly recommend visiting OpenSea's Getting Started Guide for anyone new to buying NFTs.

What is unique about your data viz art prints?

We believe in using data visualization as art for a purpose, while also working with modern means to ensure the art print retains long-term collectable status. To accomplish this, we are choosing to embed non-fungible tokens to secure our customer's protections necessary to retain long-term ownership of high-quality data visualization art prints and the original vectorized digital art files -- which encompass the collection, which can be later resold to others who can gain ownership of the token. All physical art prints include the rights to an NFT assigned to the original print, which will never change, as well as the vector graphics to be used for printing out any size dimension desired. In some cases, prints will be sold as a "limited collection" where a capped number of tokens will be issued to owners, limiting the number of prints in circulation.

Can you create custom art prints?

Yes! We love generating custom data viz art prints for office space, real estate, virtual employees, one-off gifts, and other uses like high-traffic locations where displaying visual art is appealing or of interest. Small changes and personalizations for current art prints can also be done. Custom branding can be included upon approval, and commercial-partner opportunities are also available for co-development of digital goods.

What size and dimensions are your art prints?

Physical art prints are sold in sizes as small as a postcard, and as large as 40-inch by 60-inch. Standard sizes for some prints may be limited in the Etsy store, but we do take customization and personalization requests. If you would like to get a custom print of a larger size, using specific paper or materials, please Contact Me directly and we will provide a quote.

How often are new prints released?

New prints and featured authors will be highlighted and promoted as often as possible. The best way to get notified is subscribing to the New Viz Alert, which sends an email alert when new collections, prints, or featured items are going live soon.

Non-Fungible Tokens and Crypto Wallets

What is a Crypto Wallet?

A digital wallet, or "crypto wallet" is an application or hardware device that allows individuals to store and transfer digital assets like cryptocurrencies and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs).

When you download a "crypto wallet", you take control of two 42-character keys; a public key, known as your wallet address, and a private key. You can think of your public key as your shareable bank account info, so copy and paste it in when people ask for your address. Your private key works like a password and should remain private. To learn more about using a crypto wallet to buy NFTs on OpenSea, please visit the OpenSea Help Center for a deeper dive. [-OpenSea Help Center, 2021]

Why do I need a Crypto Wallet for OpenSea?

Decentralized applications, or 'Dapps' as many like to call them, work differently from traditional websites like eBay. When you purchase an item from a collection on OpenSea, the funds go straight from your crypto wallet to the seller's wallet. There's no company in the middle holding the goods while the transaction goes through, so access to your NFTs and digital derivatives will be immediate, and will include custom vector graphics (.svg) and documentation (.docx).

Which Crypto Wallet is right for me?

Understanding risk is key to successfully navigating the brave new world of crypto and NFTs. The fact these decentralized platforms, like OpenSea, never store your funds or assets means that we can’t retrieve them if you lose access to your wallet (or if your wallet is compromised).

Just as there are many banks and credit cards, there are many different crypto wallet providers to choose from. They all serve the same purpose, but each one takes a different approach and makes different tradeoffs. This guide introduces many of the crypto wallets that are supported on OpenSea.

How does "money" get in my digital wallet?

A digital wallet will need to be "funded" with Ethereum, the native currency of the Ethereum network (ETH), which happens 1) As a deposit from an exchange, 2) purchased directly in the wallet using a credit card (fees apply!), or 3) Directly from within the digital wallet provider (where a bank account or debit card may be linked).

To fund your first wallet, most agree it’s best to find a reputable crypto exchange, like Coinbase or Binance, which offer a way to buy crypto with cash or through linked bank accounts.

Why do I need to purchase Ethereum to buy Art?

Ether is the native currency of the Ethereum network and it’s commonly abbreviated to ETH, which is its ticker symbol. You need ETH to pay for some of your interactions with the blockchain and to pay for the items you buy. You can add ETH by heading to the wallet icon, located on the top-right of the OpenSea website. You'll see a blue button titled "Add Funds". To learn more, visit the OpenSea step-by-step guide to purchasing Ethereum.

OpenSea and NFT Marketplace

What is OpenSea?

OpenSea.io is the world’s first and largest digital marketplace for crypto collectibles and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Creators and digital artists "mint" their original artworks for collectors and customers looking to buy, sell, and discover exclusive digital assets.

Why do you use OpenSea to sell NFTs?

OpenSea is primarily a self-serve, peer-to-peer marketplace. That means anyone can create and sell an NFT on OpenSea! To ensure the best experience for buyer sand collectors, OpenSea goes the extra mile.

The OpenSea user safety team actively monitors the platform, approves collections and removes malicious content as soon it’s discovered, or reported by users. This ensures OpenSea's community remains vibrant while upholding the OpenSea Terms of Service.

For example, all collections on OpenSea are discoverable by default, but collections that have been "safelisted" have been approved by the OpenSea user safety team. If a collection has not been safelisted by the user safety team, potential buyers will be asked to review important collection details and agree to OpenSea’s Terms of Service.

OpenSea also provides a lower cost of entry for minting gas fees, as artists pay a 2.5% processing fee on each transaction. Physical goods can be purchased through OpenSea.io.

How do I buy an NFT of one of your art prints?

By purchasing an art print or framed print through the Etsy storefront, each customer will receive entitlement to the token minted for the print purchased. In some cases, minted works will be given away as part of a promotional offer, but "gas fees" will still be required in order to collect the NFT and store the token in your digital wallet.

In cases where a custom digital print or NFT is purchased directly as part of a large volume print cycle, directions for receiving your token will be emailed to you upon fulfillment of the order. If you did not receive an email with your QR code and token transfer details, please Contact Me to resend.

What are the key terms I need to know in order to get started as a crypto collector?

There are a number of terms to understand before you get started, as they are critical to navigating and particpating in the crypto platforms and NFT marketplaces, like OpenSea. To get started with the basics, we recommend gaining fluency from the article on "key terms", found on the OpenSea blog.

Where can I find my NFT after I place an order?

Etherscan is a useful tool for exploring the Ethereum blockchain and confirming your transaction completion. You can search your wallet address to see your token balance or enter a transaction hash to verify transaction history. It's an easy way to verify a transaction's completion. Click here to learn more. If you are using the MetaMask wallet, select the three dots at the top right of the extension, and select "View on Etherscan" to go view your token balance and transaction history on Etherscan.

Buying Art on Etsy

What is Etsy?

Etsy is an online global marketplace for unique and creative goods sold by indpendent artists micro-manufacturers, allowing anyone with internet access and postal service to open a customer-ready storefront. It’s home to a universe of special, extraordinary items, from unique handcrafted pieces to vintage treasures, including my data viz as fine art offerings!

What payment options does Etsy support?

Etsy Payments allows buyers and sellers to use various forms of payments on Etsy.com, and Etsy's mobile apps and other services. Etsy Payments users can pay with and accept payment by credit card, debit card, Etsy Gift Card, Etsy Credit, Etsy Coupon, some bank transfer services, PayPal (where available), Apple Pay, Google Pay, and some country-specific instalment payment methods - all in their domestic Etsy Payments currencies. This policy explains all of your rights and obligations when using Etsy Payments.

How long do orders take to fulfill?

Digital prints are fulfilled immediately along with published NFTs with active collections, however, the minting process for custom NFT and marketplace collection listings requires an approval and review workflow. Once the NFT is minted and available for release, a notification is sent and the transfer of ownership is completed with the customer's designated crypto-wallet. Physical prints take 3-5 days to ship, as all artwork is made to order in order to support personalization and customization to further create a special gift or unique visual to display as part of a personal narrative, fundraiser, or cause.

How do I place an order?

We are currently taking orders for art prints through Etsy, and seperately using OpenSea to offer Non-Fungible Tokens for the prints. Both Etsy and OpenSea Collection storefronts are external sites. Contact Me if you need a quote for high-volume orders (greater than 10+ prints) for businesses, employees, fundraisers, and other awareness campaigns. Multiple payment options are supported depending on location and region.

Where can I find my order status?

First, check your email, including any spam folders you may be using. If you didnt receive a confirmation email, please Contact Me with your order information. Most orders will take up to 3-5 days to ship, but in some cases it can take longer during high-volume periods. We will do our best to provide an accurate date of arrival for holidays and birthdays. Once the order is prepared for shipment, tracking information is provided by email. Please Contact Me directly if you have any other questions about your order.
